I was driving thru Lindale, Texas on my way to Dallas to visit family. I'm from Louisiana. My car broke down on a Saturday so I had it towed to where the insurance suggested American Automotive. I had to wait until Monday for them to look at the vehicle so I had to stay at a hotel.
Excellent customer service.. I will be back for any repairs in the future..
I wouldn't recommend going here for auto repair. I was having trouble with my starter, so I took it up there for repair. They charged over $200 to fix it. Fine, whatever. I agreed and it seemed to be fixed. A few weeks later I was having transmission problem. So my fiancé brought it up there to get it looked at. They said they could fix it for $450 dollars. I paid them. Come to find out, all they did was replace the air condenser because it was "covered in transmission fluid." They said replacing it would fix the transmission. Long story short, a month later neither one of those things are fixed. Plus now we have an overpriced air condenser that I could have bought for way less from eBay. The only reason I didn't was because I didn't know that was what they were doing, and because I thought hey we're fixing the transmission. I took it back up there explaining the problems and how neither were fixed. The guy up there tells me that they can replace the starter, but all o have to do is push it in and turn and it will be fine. Now I'm thinking, why didn't you just tell me that at the beginning? Why did I have to pay over $200 to get that info? Plus they looked at the transmission. Now they are saying they can't fix it. That I have to take it to a transmission. Why would you not say that to begin with? Whether it was consciously, or subconsciously, this place seems to be trying to take people for a ride, and not in the good way. Now I've paid about $700 and nothing has been fixed except the AC, which I didn't ask for! Their work ethic is subpar for any place of business, and I believe 2 stars is more than fair for what I received.
We had a major repair and it was handled professionally -- expeditiously and with a high level of quality. After 4 months, I can see that it was done right. When a water pump went bad that they had installed, they replaced it at no charge. AA has an air of integrity.
On Monday Dave from American Automotive informed me that the fuel pump went out on my vehicle and it would cost me 672 dollars for them to fix it. I rented a silly and towed the vehicle home myself. I found out that the fuel pump was right under the backseat which took me every bit of 30 minutes to replace. I bought a fuel pump for 69 dollars so how in the heck do they justify charging 600 I'm labor? What a joke. When I called them for an explanation I was cursed at and hung up on. I wouldn't even send my ex mother in law to them for help. Totally disgusted with how they tried to cheat me out of money and I'm certain that I'm not the only one.
